- A copy of the young person's birth certificate or identity card
- A copy of the parent or guardian's identity card

Membership is open to every young person from six years old.

Three steps from first enquiry to first meeting.
Joining is straightforward. Fill in the application form online, and a leader from your nearest group will contact you to arrange a first visit. Young people are welcome to attend two meetings before deciding whether to become a member.

Annual membership is kept deliberately low so that cost is never the reason a child cannot join. Groups may ask for a small contribution towards camps and activities. If cost is a difficulty, speak to your group leader — we will find a way.

Once your application is received you will get a reference number. A leader reviews it, checks there is a place in the section, and contacts you within a couple of weeks.

You start at six and you can stay until twenty-six. Each section has its own programme, its own badges, and its own way of doing things.
