Seychelles Scouts: Imbuing Values of Service through Community Impact

To say that the activities and values instilled in youths through scouting in Seychelles go beyond mere camping and knot-tying might be an understatement. In this blog, we will recount a recent exemplification of such values in action – a day wherein the Seychelles Scout Association once again stood for its motto, Service above self.

Recap Of The Event

 

On the 7th of May, the Seychelles Scout Association family witnessed an experience of dedication, camaraderie, and community service bound together in a beehive of zestful activity and coordinated teamwork. Our dynamic Praslin scout leader joined forces with a team of eight buoyant scouts and a supportive parent in an earnest endeavor that added sparkle to the facilities at Baie Ste Anne Creche.

Together, they took up the task of refurbishing the classroom; the scouts painting the walls with youthful vigor, while their supportive parent and leader assisted in laying down carpet. By the end of the day, and after much perspiration and laughter, the learning space at the Baie Ste Anne Creche had received a fresh, vibrant makeover!

 

This transformation was a testament to the DNA of scouting, mirroring the values of duty, responsibility, and community service that form the bedrock of what we stand for as an association.

The Educational Component

 

Scouting is about learning while doing, and this experience was no different. The refurbishing was not just about repainting and carpet but about imbibing values such as teamwork, commitment, and selfless service. It was about the satisfaction derived from making a tangible difference in one’s community – a fulfillment that goes beyond mere decoration or renovation.

Not only did we manage to add a fresh touch to the creche’s classroom, but we also displayed the spirit of the Seychelles Scout Association in action, letting our local community witness how the values ingrained in scouts translate into meaningful acts of service. Through such initiatives, our association, which constitutes an important youth activities institution in Seychelles, translates leadership training for youth into real-life impact, benefitting both our scouts and the community at large.
