On the 1st of December, under a velvety, starlit Seychelles sky, the Rover Scouts Seychelles community gathered in the spirit of togetherness for a gala that was much more than an evening of entertainment—it was a milestone. At the Chilli Bar, surrounded by the buzz of anticipation and the warmth of friendship, the Rover Scouts Seychelles launched a new chapter in their story, one that resonates deeply with their foundational mission:

“Empowering Rovers to Be Catalysts of Positive Change.”

A Journey Begun by Visionaries

The seed for this vibrant community was planted in 2006-2007 by Mrs. Betty-Mai Sofa, following her graduation. Her vision was clear: to engage the youth of 18 and above, many of whom had grown up within the scouting folds, to continue their active participation in the movement. The Rover Scouts became a bridge between the adventures of youth scouting and the responsibilities that come with adulthood, providing a space for continued growth and community service.

A Mission Etched in Empowerment

With a mission statement that pledges to “cultivate a community of dynamic individuals committed to fostering positive change,” the Rover Scouts Seychelles are a testament to the transformative power of scouting. The organization empowers its members through diverse experiences, leadership development, and service initiatives, laying the groundwork for a lasting impact both locally and globally.

Values and Objectives: The Compass for Change

At the heart of this movement are core values—service, leadership, adventure, learning, and inclusivity—each a guiding star in the Rover Scout’s quest for personal and communal development. These values manifest through clear objectives:

  1. Community Impact: A focus on service projects that benefit the Seychelles community.
  2. Leadership Development: Training and mentorship programs to cultivate the leaders of tomorrow.
  3. Adventure and Team Building: Activities that challenge and foster a sense of unity.
  4. Environment Stewardship: Initiatives aimed at preserving the natural beauty of the Seychelles.
  5. Global Citizenship: Encouraging understanding and action on global issues.
  6. Innovation and Creativity: Nurturing new ideas for the advancement of the Scouts.
  7. Wellness and Resilience: Promoting health, well-being, and the capacity to thrive in adversity.

A Gala Night to Remember

The recent gala was a celebration of these ideals. With the announcement of a revised ticket price, the Rover Scouts reaffirmed their commitment to inclusivity, ensuring that the joy of the evening was within reach for many. The extended disco hours, the melodic lineup featuring local artists, and the festive ambiance underscored a night of jubilation and community spirit.
